New Florida law could help Kentucky's drug problem

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Florida's governor just made a move that may help Kentucky's illegal prescription drug problem.

Governor Rick Scott signed a new law aimed at controlling the state's pill mills.  It penalizes doctors who overprescribe painkillers, tightens rules for pharmacies, and authorizes a prescription drug monitoring database.

Florida is considered the epicenter of prescription drug abuse.  Governor Steve Beshear released a statement Friday saying, in part, "Choking off the pill pipeline from Florida is a key element of our strategy.  Today's action in Florida is good news for Kentucky, and I applaud their legislature's efforts."
