Separate trials set for two men charged with killing sexual partner

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A judge decides separate trials are needed for two men charged with killing a sexual partner and burying his body in their basement.

Joseph Banis and Jeffrey Mundt appeared in court in Louisville Friday morning.  They each face murder and other charges.

One could go to trial in December -- the other, sometime next year.

Banis and Mundt are accused of killing 37-year-old James Carroll in 2009.

Police believe Carroll was stabbed and shot before his body was stuffed into a plastic storage bin and buried in the home in Old Louisville.

The prosecutor says authorities still need to view 937,000 files from the men's computers and telephones before trial.
