S. Ind. town to feed 1,000 troops, vets on 9/11

FORT BRANCH, Ind. (AP) -- A southwestern Indiana town plans to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by cooking up enough food to feed 1,000 soldiers and veterans.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports organizers in the town of Fort Branch are looking for at least 100 families to cook for 10 people each. They also need volunteers to help with the picnic and groups to entertain the diners.

Organizers say the Sept. 11 picnic is the perfect tradition for the town about 20 miles north of Evansville to begin in the same year it marks its bicentennial. Fort Branch Clerk Treasurer Stacy Elpers says the town will "take anybody willing to help" make the event a success.

Organizer Chip Shrode says about 3,000 veterans and military members live in the area.
