POLICE: Woman shot in head during home invasion

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are investigating a home invasion in which a woman was shot in the back of the head, not far from where her children were sleeping.

Detectives say Dejuan Hammond called Mark Cotton, telling him he was bringing some money.  Instead, officers say, Steven Pettway and another suspect broke into the Smoketown home, holding Cotton and Jessica Baker at gunpoint.

Hammond arrived shortly afterwards, demanding $500.  As the victims tried to escape, police say Pettway shot Baker in the back of the head, just feet away from where two children were sleeping.

Baker is expected to be OK, but Pettway and the third suspect got away.  Hammond was arrested and charged with attempted murder, burglary, and kidnapping.

Police ask that if you have information about Pettway or the third suspect, call 574-LMPD.
