CONSPIRACY: Man allegedly planned to kill two J-town police officers

JEFFERSONTOWN, KY (WDRB) -- Randall Lacefield stood quietly as arraignment court Judge Sean Delahanty read the charges against him. "Your charges are two counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder." A grand jury indicted him just hours later on the same charges.

Jeffersontown Police say Lacefield's intended targets were two of their police officers. A police major told WDRB they are not ready to talk about the case, but the arrest slip spells out the alleged murder plot and how quickly police moved on it.

A confidential informant called J-town police on Tuesday, saying Lacefield planned to kill a Jeffersontown officer. Detectives recorded a conversation with Lacefield and he reportedly revealed the murder would happen at the restaurant Captain's Quarters. Money, a weapon, and motive are also discussed.

The confidential informant says Lacefield met him in this parking lot on Taylorsville Road, Wednesday afternoon. The informant reports Lacefield said he was going to kill two Jeffersontown police officers and then handed the informant $260 for an assault rifle, or AR-15.

Once the money changed hands, J-town police swooped in and arrested Lacefield on two charges of murder and two charges of conspiracy of murder.

Lacefield's grandmother told WDRB off-camera that he has a history of mental illness. He also has a history with J-town police. Last month, officers arrested Lacefield after they say he sped away from them on a motorcycle and hit a minivan, injuring two people and himself. He was supposed to appear in court next week on charges of wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading police.

His bond is $500,000 cash. Jeffersontown Police say it's possible the FBI could investigate because it involves a murder plot against police officers.
