LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police are traveling into cyberspace to find new recruits.

The agency is embracing social media in a big way by placing recruiting videos on YouTube and creating a presence on Facebook, Twitter, among other cyber-destinations.

KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer explains in a news release, "Social Media has become a crucial part of how we interact with each other and it accelerates the dissemination of information to the public...This is the way our society is now, especially with our younger generation – they want immediate notification."

Brewer also says using social media to recruit is cost-effective in a time when budgets are "stretched thin."

Lt. David Jude, Commander for the KSP Public Affairs Branch, says, "Social Media is not a fad...It will continue to evolve and it is important for agencies to recognize this in order to stay ahead of the curve."
