Lexington embraces "lazy" designation with Sedentary Parade

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Some Lexington residents are planning a tongue-in-cheek embrace of the city's recent designation as the nation's laziest with the Sedentary Parade set for this fall.

Get Healthy Lexington Vice President of Development Kathleen Martin says everyone should bring their lawn chairs and get comfortable for the event Oct. 9 as the parade goes nowhere and requires doing nothing. Stationary floats and non-marching bands are planned, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

Lexington was recently named the least active city in America out of 100 rated by Men's Health magazine, based on factors including frequency of exercise, cable viewing, and video game purchases.

The parade will be part of the city's Second Sunday event, held to encourage active lifestyles. Fitness-related activities including a 5K are also planned for the day.
