Eligible JCPS students to receive free school supplies

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Volunteers are making sure JCPS students have the right tools to go back to school.

About 1,500 backpacks filled with pencils, crayons, markers and paper are ready to go.

United Healthcare employees teamed up with the University of Louisville to collect and fill the backpacks.

Volunteers will now deliver the backpacks to the 15th district PTA clothing assistance program, where parents with referrals from their child's school will be able to get them.

"It's critical. It helps make them successful at school. If they have the right clothing, school supplies, it's very important for these needy kids and families, especially in this time in our society where we have a lot of financial problems," says Cherie Dimar, the 15th district PTA president.

Parents can get a referral by talking to officials at their child's school.
