Police still searching landfill for sign of IU student

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police from Bloomington say they will spend at least another week searching a landfill to clues in the Lauren Spierer case. Lauren Spierer's the IU student who disappeared from downtown Bloomington in early June during an early morning of drinking.

So far, police are not saying what, if anything, they've found in the trash. The landfill is north of Terre Haute. Police asked the landfill owner to isolate trash taken from Spierer's apartment building in late June, but did not begin any searches until this week.

A team of between 20 and 30 officers is scouring more than 500 tons of trash per day.
