I-71 will have traffic and construction until November

Posted: Updated:

The construction has to happen but it is causing a lot of headaches. The traffic on I-71 will be there for at least 3 more months.

Some maintenance has been done on I-71 over the years, but as far as major resurfacing--that has not been done since 1988.

Interstate 71 is going through major construction--a 10.9 million dollar resurfacing project.

Drivers can get used to I-71 being reduced down to one lane on nights and weekends--the project won't be finished until November.

The biggest headache will come mid-September, with 24-7 lane closures. "We're going to have the interstate reduced to one lane 24 hours a day for 2 weeks Northbound and then we'll do 2 weeks Southbound," said Andrea Clifford with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

You can always call 511 for traffic information, and use River Road and Brownsboro Road as alternate routes.
