LOUISVILLE, KY --- Head Coach Charlie Strong's depth chart for Louisville's Thursday night home opener against Murray State is out.
As expected, junior Will Stein (5-10 176) will begin the season as the Cardinals' starting quarterback, and true freshman Teddy Bridgewater (6-2 193) is the back-up. Who will get the majority of the carries in the backfield behind Stein is not as clear. Senior Victor Anderson (5-10 189) was the pre-camp favorite, but the depth chart lists Anderson or sophomore Jeremy Wright (5-11 199) on the first string, meaning both will likely get a solid number of game reps. Anderson and Wright will also handle kick return duties.
Louisville running backs coach Kenny Carter recently said Wright was one of the most talented backs he's ever seen. That's high praise for the guy who had his breakout game at Syracuse last year, rushing for 98 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Eight freshmen/redshirt freshmen cracked either the first or second team. John Miller (6-2 308) is the only true freshman listed on the first team at left guard. Wide receiver Michaelee Harris (6-0 198), right guard Jake Smith (6-3 315), and cornerback Jordan Paschal (5-9 180) are all redshirt freshmen and will likely make their collegiate debut as starters.
Other freshmen cracking the 2-deep include true freshmen wideouts DeVante Parker (6-2 180) and Eli Rogers (5-10 184) behind starting X-receiver Andrell Smith (Jr, 6-4, 209) and H-receiver Josh Bellamy (Sr, 6-0, 206), respectively. Redshirt Chris Acosta (6-3 275) is the back-up right tackle. Another redshirt Stephan Robinson (5-8 175) will back up Paschal at cornerback, along with true freshman Andrew Johnson (5-10 178) behind starter Anthony Conner (Sr, 5-11 187).
Compare that to eight starting seniors on offense and defense to start the 2011 season for Louisville.
