Louisville firefighters, police to face off in Patriot Game

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Forget U of L or UK -- the real sports rivalry right now is between Louisville firefighters and police.

The two are preparing to go head-to-head in the 9th annual Patriot Game, a charitable basketball game that raises money for The Healing Place.  The competition has both sides taking friendly jabs at each other.

Chief Gregory Frederick of Louisville Fire & Rescue says, "Every now and then when I'm having a tough day at the office and things maybe aren't going so well, I rely on technology, and I reach in my pocket and pull out my trusty Blackberry and the picture I have of last year's scoreboard -- it just brightens my day."

But Chief Robert White of LMPD counters, "We have won -- everybody played this down -- but we have won five of the eight games -- and we don't have the time that the fire department has to practice, also."

The game takes place September 8th at the Kentucky International Convention Center.  It will also commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
