LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville has transformed an original 1924 firehouse into a state-of-the-art fire station.  Station 10 officially opened today in the Beechmont neighborhood.

The money for the new fire station comes from $3.4 million in federal stimulus dollars through a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant.

It incorporates the original firehouse from 1924 with the new facility to improve the safety and working conditions of firefighters.  Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer says, "We've got a very efficient building that's going to help the more than 30 firefighters take their jobs and safety to the next level."

The next phase of the project includes improvements to the old structure and the installation of solar panels on the roof.
