Burned body identified as man who stabbed 2 women

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) -- State police using DNA have identified a badly burned body found in car following a northern Indiana police pursuit as that of a man who allegedly stabbed two women.

Elkhart County Chief Deputy Coroner James Elliott said Wednesday that Indiana State Police laboratories used DNA to identify the boy as that of 31-year-old Francisco Macias of Goshen. Police last week said Macias stabbed two women and was a person of interest in an Aug. 22 house fire that killed a man and his two sons in Elkhart because Macias had "direct and indirect interactions" with someone in the house.

Police have released few details about their investigation. A message seeking comment from Elkhart police was left Wednesday by The Associated Press.

Police previously said the car was registered to Macias.
