Immediately after graduating from the University of Southern Indiana with a BS in Communications, James took the position of Research Director for WTWO-TV 2 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He moved to the Sales department after about six months, and sold TV advertising at WTWO for seven years.
In 2003, he moved to Indianapolis to work for Tribune Broadcasting. James sold for WXIN Fox 59 for a few years before joining LIN Television, also in Indianapolis.
In addition to the television business, James also owned a company that held the leasing rights to the Terre Haute Action Track -- a half-mile dirt oval that features sprint car racing. The track primarily hosts series such as United States Auto Club (USAC) and the World of Outlaws (WoO). He sold the company in June, 2006.
James has been married since 2003 to Erin Haynes-Reed, a Louisville native with a journalism degree from Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama. Their son, Patterson Thorne Reed, was born in 2006 and their daughter, Addison Haynes Reed, was born in 2008.
