LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials who want to widen parts of I-65 in central Kentucky are taking the plan to state lawmakers.

It calls for improving the 38 miles stretching from Elizabethtown to Park City.

Officials say they are taking the issue to the General Assembly after the Kentucky Transportation Infrastructure Authority rejected a proposal to create a commission to oversee the project.

Supporters say the proposal would be a public-private partnership that would cost about $587 million to widen the stretch of road.

It has the backing of local and state officials in Hardin, Hart, LaRue and Barren counties.
