LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A merger that would put Jewish Hospital under the control of Catholic Health Initiatives is raising questions in the Jewish community.
Honi Goldman is challenging the merger with a petition drive. She tells the Courier-Journal that some in the Jewish community have questions about potential restrictions on care. Some elderly are concerned that if they are taken to a Baptist hospital, their living wills may not be honored.
Doctors at Jewish Hospital say that is not the case, and that Jewish Hospital will continue to provide Kosher food and observe Jewish holy days.
The hospital merger would create the state's largest health care system.
