LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Right now there are jobs available in our area that pay $70,000 a year -- but there's no one to fill them.
Atlas Machine and Supply supports a new initiative called the Bluegrass Economic Advancement Movement. It's an effort by the mayors of Louisville and Lexington, who are developing a joint regional business plan. It supports the growth of high-quality jobs in advanced manufacturing.
Companies like Atlas have apprenticeships to get more skilled workers.
"There seems to be surplus of college graduates now, and you can buy gas from a college graduate at $8 an hour at Thornton's or Speedway making maybe $8 an hour, yet I have $70,000 machinists jobs that I can't fill," said Rich Gimmel, president of Atlas Machine and Supply.
