LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man now faces several charges after he allegedly held another man against his will for several hours and used his son's football helmet to repeatedly beat him in the face.

Officers responded to a report of an injured person in the 4100 block of Hillview Avenue around 8 a.m. Sunday. That's where they found the victim with a swollen, bloodied face. Police say the swelling was so extreme, the victim could barely speak, but he managed to tell officers he had been assaulted by someone in an upstairs apartment.

Before he was taken to University Hospital, the victim told police he had been held against his will in the apartment for about nine hours.

When officers checked the apartment, they discovered the suspect and his 15-year-old son, along with a rolled up rug hidden under the bed. Police say the rug had the victim's blood on it. Investigators also found a football helmet covered with blood.

Police arrested 33-year-old Xavier T. Hall at his residence. He's charged with assault, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful imprisonment.
