POLICE: Mailbox not enough to stop alleged DUI driver...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who hit a mailbox and kept on driving has been charged with DUI.

According to the arrest report, 41-year-old Gregory L. White was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger when he slammed into a mailbox in the 6900 block of Holly Lake Drive and kept on driving -- dragging the mailbox under the vehicle.

When officers located the vehicle, they found White behind the wheel. Officers say White smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and "incomprehensible speech."

According to the arrest report, White had stopped the truck and left it in gear and an officer had to reach inside and put the vehicle in Park before stopping the engine. Police say they were unable to conduct a field sobriety test because White was too intoxicated to understand or follow directions and "could not stand on his own."

White refused to take a breathalyzer test, but during a search of his pickup truck, officers discovered prescription medication.
