Children flee Carmel home as mom fatally shot
CARMEL, Ind. (AP) -- Police in suburban Indianapolis say a woman and her estranged husband died in an apparent murder-suicide that happened with the woman's three children at the home.
Carmel police Lt. Jeff Horner says the children were getting ready for school when their stepfather arrived at the home just before 7 a.m. Tuesday and an argument started. The woman's 16-year-old son ran from the home with his 11-year-old brother when they heard gunshots and their 12-year-old sister hid in an upstairs room.
Those killed were identified as 50-year-old Suzanne Saunders and 46-year-old Aaron Saunders. Horner says a handgun was found near Aaron Saunders' body.
The shooting happened in a neighborhood of townhomes along the Monon Trail pedestrian path in the city just north of Indianapolis.
