Eastern KY man gets life for killing woman

Posted: Updated:

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a woman after running her off the road has been sentenced to life in prison.

Christopher Smith received the sentence in Harlan Circuit Court last week in the 2009 death of 32-year-old Kimberly Ealy, according to the Harlan Daily Enterprise. Police say Ealy was traveling by car with her 13-year-old son and her friend, Melissa Clark, when Smith forced them off the road and fired shots into the vehicle. Police say the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute between Smith and Clark.

Smith pleaded guilty in July to charges stemming from the shooting.
