Casino revenues, patrons fell after bridge closure

Posted: Updated:

ELIZABETH, Ind. (AP) -- State gaming reports show Horseshoe Casino's revenues fell 11% and admissions plummeted 20% in September, the first month the Sherman Minton Bridge was closed.

The bridge was closed Sept. 9 after the first of several cracks in steel supports was discovered.

Revenue figures released by Indiana Gaming Commission on Tuesday showed Horseshoe's revenues dropped from $22.2 million in September 2010 to $19.7 million last month. Admissions fell from 212,000 in September 2010 to 169,000 last month.

Before it was shut down, the span carried Kentucky patrons across the Ohio River to the casino about 10 miles downriver from the bridge.
