FINCHVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just over a week after two men escape from a Kentucky prison, police believe they are up to their old tricks.
A home is broken into in Shelby County - and what was taken, makes police believe they're behind it.
The quiet calm in this small country community has turned to unrest as Jay Rose and his Finchville neighbors now wonder what or who may be lurking in the woods behind their home.
"Lisa and her daughter came over and knocked on the door and she said somebody broke in," said Rose. "She was scared to death and wanted me to go over there with her and check on the house."
"Sure enough: somebody had been in there you could see where the back door had been kicked."
Deputies believe Jerry Nation and Anthony Kendrick broke into Rose's neighbor home. The convicts escaped Blackburn Correctional Complex on October 2.
A day later, they were spotted in Taylorsville but got away again.
"The immediate area to where we had our burglary backs up to where they had that chase and where they we're last seen," said Mike Armstrong, Shelby County Sheriff.
Nation and Kendrick were seen the day before the burglary on Henry Veech Road. It's believed they popped into a creek, then jumped into the woods and came out the next day, breaking into the family's home.
"They stole quite a bit money, jewelry, food clothing," Armstrong said. "They took a lot of stuff that you normally wouldn't steal."
"Things that were taken that were more of people wanting to replenish their daily activities."
Nation and Kendrick haven't been seen in more than a week. Detectives don't know if they're still in the area.
Rose takes no chances.
"Everything is secured: cars, trucks -- everything is on lockdown," he said. "We pay more attention to the lights at night. It's been a big change for us."
The thieves took from his neighbors, but Rose says they've stolen something from him too.
Security.
"We'll both fell better at ease when they're caught maybe things can get back to normal."
