Work begins on moving collapsed Ind. fair stage

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Workers have begun preparing to move the wreckage of a stage that collapsed and killed seven people at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

State Fair Commission spokeswoman Stephanie McFarland said Monday crews will dismantle the fallen rigging and move it to a warehouse where it can be studied to determine what caused the collapse. The collapsed stage has remained at the fairgrounds since it blew down Aug. 13 as the country duo Sugarland was preparing to perform.

The Indianapolis Star reports a judge has granted a stay of a search warrant at a stagehands union hall and set a hearing for Wednesday.

The union is contesting the search warrant obtained by the Indiana Occupational Health and Safety Administration. A union attorney argues the fair commission, not the union, employed the stagehands.
