LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An off-duty LMPD officer shopping for groceries was slightly injured while trying to subdue an irate customer.

It happened about 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Walmart on Bashford Manor Lane. According to the arrest report, the officer heard a woman screaming and cursing "several isles over." Several customers and staff were alarmed by the outburst so the officer asked the woman -- 25-year-old Sherie Sorrells -- to calm down.

Police say Sorrells continued to yell and curse, and refused to provide identification when requested. As Sorrells continued shouting obscenities, the officer tried to handcuff her, but she struggled and would not comply.

The arrest report says the officer was wearing an LMPD polo shirt "with badge clearly visible." One of the store's loss prevention officers assisted the LMPD officer and they finally got her handcuffed, although the arrest report says she continued to resist, scream and curse.

The officer sustained a slight cut on the hand during the struggle with Sorrells, who already had a warrant for her arrest for failing to use child restraints.

The officer's hand was cut by the handcuffs during the struggle.

Sorrells was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
