LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than two decades after he sexually abused children in his care, a former YMCA coach learned his sentence.

In April 1991, Michael Bond was indicted on four counts of sexual abuse in connection with the incidents, each of which involved children under 12. A warrant issued for his arrest at that time states the following:

"The above-named defendant unlawfully fondled [the affiant's] 8-year-old son's penis and buttocks on three or more occasions. The defendant was the child's counselor and activities director during the summer day care program at the YMCA. One of these incidents was witnessed by an assistant counselor."

All four victims made statements to the Louisville Metro Police Crimes Against Children Unit, according to the arrest warrant. Additionally, an assistant counselor witnessed some of the abuse.

Bond was roughly 23 years old and a University of Kentucky student at the time of the alleged incidents.

Near the time the charges were filed, Bond fled the country for Thailand, but last summer Bond returned and pleaded guilty to four counts of sex abuse, admitting to abusing four boys at the downtown YMCA in 1990.

WDRB News was the only local TV news outlet there when Jacob Young, one of Bond's victims, confronted him during the sentencing hearing.

"Every time somebody touches me, it brings a memory to my head that I can't erase," Young said. "I can't get rid of it."

Young was just 8 years old when Bond, a YMCA counselor at the time, sexually abused him. Young told Judge Barry Willett during sentencing Monday that it left a scar he'll carry with him for life.

"It will never go away no matter what I do or how I think about it, it sticks in my head no matter what," he said.

Prosecutor John Balliet described the way Bond abused his victims.

"There would be quiet time, and while quiet time was going, on he would go around where kids were lying down on mats or wherever and begin fondling them," Balliet said.

Bond's brother, Darrell, asked the judge to release him on probation.

"We'll help him do whatever he needs to do to please the court and get through everything he needs to do," Darrell Bond said.

But Young had a request of his own in one last effort to punish his accuser for what he's done.

"I feel that Mr. Bond should get the maximum of everything that he deserves to get," Young said.

Bond was sentenced to four years in prison and must also register as a sex offender.
