LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A huge surprise for Western Middle School is keeping the music alive.  Students there received more than $23,000 worth of new musical instruments Wednesday morning.

Fidelity Investments made the donation through the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which helps companies donate new band and orchestra instruments to under-funded music programs.

Band Director Eric Allen says, "This puts us 10 years ahead...couldn't be more excited about it."

Organizers say putting an instrument into students' hands improves the quality of their education and their lives.  Music education has been proven to inspire creativity and expression.
