LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One week after Indiana transportation officials awarded the Sherman Minton Bridge contract, physical work still hasn't started.
Representatives of Hall Contracting of Kentucky, the Louisville-based company that won the contract, will not comment on the project, but, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says the company is ramping up its efforts behind the scenes, getting manpower, equipment and materials.
INDOT says Hall Contracting has ordered the reinforcing steel and may begin some preliminary work next week.
Hall hasn't provided a firm schedule and the contract doesn't mandate an earliest or latest date to begin work.
Hall Contracting signed the $13.9 million deal to finish the bridge by March 2. It will get an extra $100,000 for each day it finishes early or it'll be fined $100,000 a day for finishing the project late. It wouldn't comment to WDRB about the bridge repairs.
