LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The post office is helping stamp out breast cancer.

The breast cancer stamp has raised $74 million dollars for breast cancer research since it was first issued in 1998.

It costs 55 cents, and 11 cents of that goes toward research.

It was the first stamp dedicated to raising money for a special cause.

"Thanks to legislation that has just been passed, we're going to have the stamp until 2015. That is awesome so I encourage you to--right now things are tough all over--but when you buy that one stamp, you're making a difference," says breast cancer survivor and postmaster Shelly Sounders.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for women in the Unites States.
