Sellersburg, IN (WDRB News) --A Louisville area construction company is bringing a little magic to its business. The Weber Group, Inc., located in the Sellersburg Industrial Park near the Clark County Airport, is more than just a conventional construction company.
Inside its 26,000 square foot workshop, craftsmen assemble giraffes, elephants, and giant fish made from huge square foam boxes.
The Weber Group designs and builds shopping complexes and apartment buildings. But a large part of its work is now making whimsical displays that go into amusement parks, zoos, and city parks.
"This is our entertainment division," says the company's director of Brand Development and Marketing, Penny Peavler, "and at one time we will have six to eight different projects going on."
While most of the work assembled at the company's workshop will end up at other places around the country and even the world, the Weber Group's creations can also be seen around Louisville.
The company just completed work on the Christmas Village and Castle display at the Galt House in downtown Louisville.
And the company built a giant troll for the new Troll's Under the Bridge Pub, next to the Second Street Bridge along Washington Street downtown.
The display work accounts for about 40 percent of Weber Group's annual construction business.
"It is a significant part of our business," says Peavler, "it gives us a lot of operating stability in these uncertain economic times."
The Weber Group would not be surprised to find that its entertainment division will continue to grow, because the notion of what is entertainment these days continues to expand.
"You used to find these kinds of displays in only amusement parks," adds Peavler. "Now you find them in zoos, museums, spray parks, city parks, casinos. They are all over the place, so there is plenty of opportunity for us."
That means opportunity for a local business to continue to create and to grow.
