LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Eastern Kentucky church plans to withdraw a new policy to ban interracial couples from joining the congregation.
Last week, the church voted in favor of the ban with a vote of 9 to 6.
Stacy Stepp, the pastor of the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church in Pike County, asked for advice from the Sandy Valley Conference of Free Will Baptists.
The conference met Saturday and determined there weren't enough members voting in favor of the proposal , which would require a change in bylaws.
Stepp says they plan to declare the vote approving the policy null and void.
