LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a Louisville man was literally kidnapped from the parking lot of Walmart Sunday night.
Police say 18-year-old DaWaun Jennings and a 15-year-old were responsible for kidnapping and robbing the victim, who was tied up and thrown into his own van before being driven from the parking lot of the Bashford Manor Walmart.
Investigators say the juvenile is considered extremely dangerous.
"The 15-year-old had a felony conviction already as a juvenile and since that time he has been arrested on three gun charges, so yes, he is very dangerous," said LMPD Major Donald Burbrink II.
Burbrink says the victim was caught off guard as he approached his van.
"As he is going out to the car, he hits his remote and the lights come on like normal and the doors unlock and they see that so they basically pull the ski mask on, and as he gets into the car they grab him on out and take him and put him in the back of the van."
What happened next made the victim think he was about to be killed, according to police. They actually duct taped the victim," Burbrink said. "His hands, around his eyes, his mouth and then had him in the back seat and at one point in time ... one suspect beats him on the back of the head with a pistol."
The victim was eventually taken to Dundee Road and tossed from the moving vehicle, "just threw him out while the car was still rolling -- just threw him on out and he was able to get up and got to somebody's house and just knocked on the door to try to get some help and they called the police from there," Burbrink said.
The pair allegedly got away with $700 in cash and an iPhone according to police.
Police say they caught up with Jennings in the stolen van later that night at Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium on Lexington Road -- but taking him into custody was not easy.
Burbrink says Jennings may have gotten word that police were looking for him, and he led police on a short chase in the van before they caught up with him about a mile away at Spring Street and Locust.
After being arrested, police said Jennings identified the 15-year-old suspect.
"He didn't know that much about him," Burbrink said. "But he said 'you know him.' He said 'he's the guy who put Fern Creek on lockdown.'"
Police say Jennings and the 15-year-old kidnapped and robbed the victim on a whim. According to investigators, they were planning a robbery at the nightclub later that night.
"They were going to go ahead and plan on robbing this rapper that they knew who played at Jim Porter's on a Sunday night," Burbrink said. "That was the whole game plan was to do that."
