ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (AP) -- A 59-year-old Amish man from northern Indiana was killed when the horse-drawn buggy he was driving across an intersection was struck by a sport utility vehicle.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says Marion Yoder of Goshen was killed in the collision 25 miles southeast of Goshen about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. Yoder, his wife and 8-year-old grandson were thrown from the buggy. The sheriff's department says Yoder went under the SUV.

The sheriff's department says 53-year-old Edith Yoder and Caleb Yoder were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Edith Yoder told sheriff's deputies they didn't see the SUV.

The SUV's driver, Joshua Smoker of Ligonier, told deputies he didn't know the buggy was entering the intersection.

Sheriff's Capt. Jim Bradberry says the accident is under investigation.
