LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)---It takes a lot of volunteers at Wayside Christian Mission to help people in need on Christmas Day.
There's a lot of work that goes into making sure everyone gets a Christmas meal.
It takes a lot of volunteers for that to happen.
From making and serving the food, to keeping things organized, behind the scenes for Wayside Christian Mission, an army of volunteers helped to serve nearly 3,000 meals by the end of Christmas Day.
"And with the help of all our volunteers, I think it went smoother this year than any year," says Hotel Louisville General Manager Linda Stith.
"True love is loving someone. Loving everybody. I'm here to love and help out in any way I can," says James Knox, a volunteer.
From the youngest of the volunteers, to even some who are all too familiar with what it feels like to be unemployed, down on their luck, or even homeless, it's the least many of these volunteers say they can do.
"I myself was homeless so I know how it feels. So my purpose is to give back, and not to forget where I came from so I can get where I'm going," says Chris Fleming, a volunteer.
"If I can make somebody smile today, then I've done my job," says Natalie Abram, a volunteer.
Volunteers tell us it's not only on holidays that you can help out at Wayside Christian Mission.
They say there are plenty of volunteer opportunities for you to sign up for year-round.
