LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear touted Kentucky's connections to the auto industry at the North American Auto Show in Detroit on Tuesday.

The governor appeared with leaders from the state's three automakers -- Ford, Toyota, and GM.  They appeared at the show because of the massive turnout by journalists -- more than 5,000 from 55 countries.

"We know just how innovative and dynamic Kentucky's auto industry is, and it's important that message gets heard loud and clear by the industry's most influential leaders," Gov. Beshear said in a news release.

In 2010, more than 738,000 cars and light trucks were assembled in Kentucky, about 10 percent of all cars and trucks made in the nation.  Nearly 67,000 people work in businesses related to automaking.  That includes the nearly 14,000 people who work full-time at Kentucky's four automotive assembly plants.
