LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville President James Ramsey has asked the state auditor's office to review recent financial reports of the board tasked with overseeing the disbursement of millions of dollars for indigent care.
That's after County Attorney Mike O'Connell said the board that oversees the Quality and Charity Care Trust hasn't met in two years and is "poorly managed."
The trust receives roughly $35 million each year from the city and state government to help cover the costs for needy patients treated at University Hospital.
The board's by-laws dictate it's supposed to meet twice a year, but hasn't met since 2009, O'Connell said, adding that the board is still disbursing the funds. That raised a red flag for O'Connell.

Ramsey requested the review, he said in a news release, "to ensure that the funding for this important program is, in fact, utilized to provide the best health care to the underserved in our community and state." He said to his knowledge, no one has questioned that the money issued to treat the uninsured, but that the review is the "right thing to do."
