LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three years after the Louisville Zoo train derailment, metro government is paying out more than $525,000 to the victims.
That payout settles 23 of 29 claims.
The crash in June of 2009 sent 22 people to hospitals after the open-air train flipped over on its side.
Six more claims are pending and those settlements are expected to cost the most.. since they include people with some of the most serious injuries.
The Kentucky Department of Agriculture says the train's excessive speed, poor mechanical condition, and inadequate operator training contributed to the crash.
