LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Kingdom has been closed since 2009 after Six Flags declared bankruptcy, but the owners of Holiday World say they're "interested in learning more about options for the park's future."

In a written statement Paula Werne, the spokeswoman for the Koch family -- who have owned and operated Holiday World & Splashin' Safari for over six decades -- says the Kochs became interested in learning about options for the park's future after the Kentucky Kingdom's lease was not renewed.

"Over the years, the Kochs have explored numerous opportunities for growing their business," Werne said in the statement.

According to Werne's statement, "this process is still in the fact-finding stage; no decisions have been made by the Kochs whether to further pursue this opportunity."

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari (originally called Santa Claus Land) opened in Santa Claus, Indiana in 1946.

Developer Ed Hart recently tried to put together a deal with the Kentucky State Fair Board to reopen Kentucky Kingdom, but negotiations fell through in September of 2011.
