JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WDRB) - Facing budget woes like so many school districts in Indiana, Greater Clark School Board has a matter of weeks to fix a $4 million budget hole.

But outgoing superintendent Dr. Stephen Daeschner says his administration has a plan in place. He briefed board members during a special board meeting Tuesday night.

His plan includes raiding the rainy day fund of more than $2 million, eliminating five teaching positions through attrition, selling school property and borrowing up to $7 million dollars just to make payroll – money that he says will be paid back by December.

Those measures would leave the district with a $740,000 budget shortfall with another large shortfall in the transportation budget to make up due to increased gas prices.

Late last year, Daeschner had suggested closing schools as means to make up the budget deficit. That idea was flatly rejected by the school board. Weeks later, Daeschner's contract as superintendent was not renewed.

Daeschner told WDRB News Tuesday that there some parties interested in him, though he declined to provide specifics.
