Tips for eliminating child abuse

Posted: Updated:

From Kosair Children's Hospital and the Division of Pediatric Forensic Medicine, University of Louisville School of Medicine:

  • Remember, it is normal to feel frustrated when a baby or young child cries.
  • If you are feeling frustrated or angry – take a break. It's OK to leave the baby in a crib or other safe place while you take a moment to regroup.
  • Use care when deciding who can watch your child. If you wouldn't trust them with your wallet, then don't trust them with your child.
  • Bruising is not normal on a young baby. If you see bruising on your baby, seek medical attention immediately.
  • If you suspect that a particular situation may involve child abuse, contact the Kentucky Child Abuse Hotline at (800) 752-6200.
  • For more information on resources and child abuse prevention, contact Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky 24/7 at (800) CHILDREN or www.pcaky.org.
