LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who police say represented himself as an insurance agent is in trouble with the law.

According to the arrest slip, on January 10, 25-year-old Maurice Rhodes approached a man at a flea market on Seventh Street, claiming to work for Safe Auto Insurance. The victim told police he gave Rhodes $200 in cash to purchase an insurance policy for this car. Rhodes told the victim he would received insurance cards in the mail in a few days.

On January 18, the victim received a notice from the insurance company stating that his bank had returned a check. That's when the victim called police and offered to lure Rhodes back to the flea market under the pretense of starting a new account.

When Rhodes showed up, police detained him for questioning at the station. That's when police say he admitted to posing as an insurance agent and making up account numbers.

Rhodes was arrested Monday and charged with theft by deception.
