RECIPE: The Whistle Stop's Homemade Meatloaf

Posted: Updated:

The Whistle Stop Restaurant joins us to show how to make their famous meat loaf. They'll also bring along their Irish creme cake!

The Whistle Stop's Meatloaf:

2 ½ pounds ground beef
1 cup whole milk
½ cup dehydrated onion flakes
1 ½ cup ketchup
1/8 cup worstechire sauce
2 teaspoon salt
½ tablespoon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
2 large eggs beaten
2 ½ cups quick oatmeal

Mix all ingredients by hand until well blended. Let sit in frig an hour (this step is not necessary, but the meat loaf holds together better when it sits for an hour or so). Shape.

At the restaurant we measure out 8 oz. for each rounded loaf and line them up side by side in a greased pan. Pour sauce evenly over loaves. Bake uncovered at 325 until done, about 45 minutes. Serve topped with a heaping tablespoon of our diced tomato topping.

Sauce- whisk all ingredients together and pour over loaves

2 cups ketchup
 ½ tablespoon dry mustard
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 cup water ½ teaspoon salt
Diced tomato topping

Simmer 20 oz. can of diced tomatoes with ½ cup sugar. Simmer slowly about ½ hour, you do not want it to get dry but just cook down a little and allow the sugar to permeate the tomatoes.
