LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB)--Help is on the way for a historic local church that's still in the dark. Right now, there are several efforts being made to help Lampton Baptist Church in Old Louisville pay a $32,000 Louisville Gas & Electric bill.
Some of the help is coming from Power 1350 WLOU 104.7. Brodric Purvis is the evening host and music director at WLOU Radio. Purvis hopes to become somewhat of a savior.
"We was like we definitely got to jump on it 'cause that's what we're here for," says Purvis.
Purvis is planning a fundraiser hoping to help Lampton Baptist Church see brighter days again soon.
"We're planning a black history program slash benefits program that's going to take place at the West End Baptist Church."
Lampton has been in the dark for about two weeks after the church couldn't pay a $32,000 LG&E bill.
"I don't see the end results but I know who is in charge of the end results," says Rev. James Miller, Pastor of Lampton Baptist Church.
The problem started after the church's boiler went bad...requiring more energy to heat the church.
"And what's coming through the meter it amounted to about $500 a day," says Rev. Miller.
Longtime Pastor James Miller says there has been an outpouring of support from the community and he really is starting to see a light at the end of this dark tunnel. "I am thankful to know that the people, the public and I'll say again: not just black, but white, not just white brown, yellow."
It's big goal, but Brodric Purvis hopes to make a big dent in that LG&E bill. "We're stepping out on faith and knowing that God will provide; we might just get all of it," says Purvis.
The benefit will be held on February 18th. There has also been a fund set up at BB&T Bank. Donations can be made in the name of Lampton Baptist Church.
