LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has declared February to be Earthquake Awareness Month.
Students at Coleridge-Taylor Elementary School performed an earthquake drill on Tuesday, joining others across several states for the Great Central U.S. Shakeout at 10:15 Tuesday morning.
Principal Yvette Stockwell explains, "In an earthquake drill you stay in place, stay in your classroom, don't have the preparation that you have for tornado drill, students get under the table and cover their heads and stay down."
Drop, cover, and hold on -- an easy way to remember what to do in an earthquake.
Tuesday is the 200th anniversary of the last of the 1811-12 earthquakes that destroyed the town of New Madrid, Missouri and created Reelfoot Lake in northwest Tennessee.
