LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police now say the shooting death early Wednesday morning may have been in self-defense.

Homicide detectives were called to a house in the 4000 block of South Fifth Street near Churchill Downs just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

That's where they found a woman who had been shot. She died early a short time later at University Hospital.

Coroners have identified the woman as 48-year-old Lisa Dempsey. They say the Louisville resident died of gunshot wounds.

A man in his 60s who lives in the home was being questioned by police. Investigators believe the man and woman were acquaintances, and investigators are trying to figure out why they may have been fighting.

No one has been charged in the shooting.  The case will be turned over to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to be reviewed.
