FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky has started the year with substantial growth in General Fund revenue that rose 8.6 percent in January.

Budget Director Mary Lassiter released figures Friday showing revenue last month at more than $800 million, some $60 million more than January 2011.

Road Fund revenue also edged upward by nearly $118 million in January, a 10 percent increase over January 2011.

Lassiter said sales tax receipts rose 6.7 percent but were offset by a 6.5 percent decline in individual income tax receipts.

Property tax receipts surged by 86 percent in January. And coal severance tax revenue rose 27 percent.
