LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The federal trial is underway for the Indiana man accused of forcing his grandsons to hike for miles in the Grand Canyon without food or water in brutal August heat.

Christopher Carlson told investigators that the boys were overweight and that he thought it would help get them into shape.

The Indianapolis man pleaded not guilty to six counts of child abuse.

Carlson's grandsons were 12, nine, and eight years old at the time of the hike.
