LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- One, possibly two, tornados struck the Indiana town of Pekin, and the search is on for people believed to be trapped in several homes.
Much of the damage is along State Road 60 on the east side of town. Homes and a welding business were damaged, and much of the Saroyan Hardwood plant was destroyed. That 18-acre site, according to its website, provides hardwood lumber to other Saroyan facilities.
Homes and a welding business were also destroyed, in a line that extended all the way up to Daisy Hill Road.
Paramedics are setting up a command post at a clinic. There's no word on injuries or fatalities. Firefighters from surrounding counties, rescue crews, and even farmers with front-end loaders are mustering to help out.
WDRB's Chris Turner reports that a house-to-house search for victims is underway, as a medical helicopter and several ambulances from as far away as Jackson and Monroe counties standing by. The coroner has also been called.
