LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Matthews Police say they arrested two people for drug charges and cruelty to animals Wednesday evening.

According to arrest reports, officers executed a search warrant at the home of 32-year-old Leannard Wilson and 26-year-old Shannon M. Wilson near the intersection of Fenley Ave. and Warwick Ave.

Their vehicles were also searched.

Officers say they found at least two larges baggies of marijuana, as well as a pipe, scales and a .25 caliber pistol.

The home was within 1,000 feet of an area daycare.

Police say that, during the search, the pair admitted that two pit bulls would stay inside the kitchen pantry at times. When officers searched the pantry, they noticed that it was, "small and covered in feces."

Both were charged with -- among other things -- trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana and cruelty to animals.
